JFK not withstanding, Ich komme aus Berlin, well that part of Black
Rock City.
Howdy Theme Campers,
This here's "Duke", your Burning Man theme camp placement team, pre-
event and playa, representative. I am the contact person for the
Berlin sector of Black Rock City. The Berlin sector is located at
3:00 from Anxious to Guess including the 3:00 plaza. I can answer
questions from now until 8/18. After that I will be on the playa
ready to place your camp.
This email will contain information that is very important for the
first person from your camp to arrive on the playa. If you will not
be the first person from your camp to arrive on the playa please see
that this information gets to them.
Some times we (the placement team) receive questions that you
already have the answers to. These answers can be found in the Theme
Camp Announcements that have been sent to you since your camp
registered. Please read through the announcements to see that answer
is not located there, and if not fire off an e-mail to me and we'll
see what we can figure out.
WHEN YOUR CAMP ARRIVES @ B.R.C
All camps in the Berlin sector are expected to be on playa by Tuesday
the 29th and camps in the 3:00 plaza should be on playa by Monday 8/28
Only those on the early arrival list with ticket in hand can come
early
.
After you get through the gate head to "The greeters" and:
* Let the Greater know that you are with a registered theme camp.
* Give the Greater the name of your camp, and the name of your
placer ( that's me, "Duke").
Next, the greeter will radio me and I can tell you where we can meet
so that I can show you the exact location of your camp. This will
most likely avoid the nasty process of having to move your camp if
you set it up on your own.
AFTER HOURS ARRIVAL.
Theoretically I will be working to serve you from 8:30 am to 10:00
pm. In reality I will sometimes be available a little earlier and
often a bit latter. If you arrive while I.m not on shift please give
your info to the greeter just the same and they will let me know in
the morning. Next, find a temporary spot for the night. Remember,
don't start setting up. You will be moving in the morning. The next
morning you can contact me through "Playa Info". They are located in
Center Camp. They will radio me and we can get started placing your
camp. Relax it's Burning Man.
DURING THE EVENT
During the event I will swing by periodically to see how thing are
going. Please feel free to contact me with questions you have about
placement, or any problems concerning, but not limited to neighbors,
other camps, random participants, etc. I' m your placement man. Stop
me when I'm passing by, or contact me through Playa Info. Please
don't ask to use a Ranger's radio to get a hold of me. They've got
their own stuff going on.
WHERE'S OUR CAMP GONNA BE?
If you haven't done so already, I recommend you to check your camp
address at the URL:
www.burningman.com/themecam...st_06.htm
Then you can
get an idea of your location by checking the BRC map at
www.burningman.com/preparat...ndex.html

Re: More Theme Camp Placement Announcements
Thu, August 10, 2006 - 5:44 PMDear Campers,
Welcome to the Berlin Sector. Your placer is Duke and he will be
your guide to successful placement in Black Rock City 2006! He is
available to help answer questions pre-playa and will be there to
escort you to your new home on-playa. He will announce himself to
you shortly and take over from here on, but before he does I would
like to give you a word or two about your piece of the playa.
Your section is 3:00 from Anxious to Guess including the 3:00 plaza.
You are at the heart of one of the best changes to Black Rock City
since it took its current form. You are going to help revolutionize
the participants experience within the city. We have strategically
placed highly interactive camps, well loved camps and camps that
people just can't resist exploring up around the plaza and deeper
into the city. We have placed camps with similar concepts and energy
levels together to create a terrific district.
Being on such prime real estate offers many extra benefits as well as
some extra expectations. This visibility heightens the need for you
to be a model Black Rock citizen. Please treat newcomers with a warm
and generous embrace. Teach them what Burning Man is really all
about, the community. Also, please do your best jobs cleaning up.
Last year was terrific over all with the exception of the high
traffic areas. Lets try and Leave No Trace as effectively as the
years previous.
Camps directly on the plaza will get a separate announcement shortly.
The next announcement on this list will be from your placer Duke. He
is a big galoot from the Central Coast and is ready to crash your
chill zones!
Thanks!

Final Announcement/ PRINT THIS OUT
Tue, August 22, 2006 - 3:01 PMTC ANNC,'06 - Final Announcement/ PRINT THIS OUT
Hi Campers,
This is the announcement that tells you all how to get to your home
on the playa. Please send it to everyone in your camp and I
recommend you print it out and take it with you.
THE FIRST PEOPLE IN CAMP MUST KNOW HOW THE PROCESS WORKS. Everyone
else in camp SHOULD know how this process works. However, once your
camp is officially placed you will be sent on through to find it on
your own.
Remember - if you are not on the early arrival list you can not enter
Black Rock City before Monday, August 28th!

1. When driving on highway 447, obey all traffic signs and speed
limits. Local law enforcement are waiting to snag people driving
through Wadsworth, Nixon and Gerlach at 30 mph instead of 25 mph. Do
not try to avoid hitting the jack rabbits and mice that run across
the road in front of your car. There have been fatal accidents as a
result. Also, there are cows and steer on the road at times. In the
dark you will come up on them very quickly. More than one car has
been totalled and you will be expected to pay the rancher that owns
the cow $500.00. If you are coming from the East, do not take Jungo
Road out of Winnemucca unless you have at least two spare tires and a
day or two to kill. Many cars get stuck every year.
2. READ YOUR SURVIVAL GUIDE! All of this and much more important
information is listed there.
3. Be respectful in Gerlach. Wear regular clothing (don't go
shirtless or shoeless guys and gals). It is a small conservative
town that we swarm into. We need to treat the residents with the
utmost respect as we pass through. Do not try to get water in
Gerlach unless it is from the Empire Store.
4. Have your tickets ready at the Gate. Tune into the Burning Man
Information Radio (94.5) to get the low down as you enter the city.
5. Your "theme camp check in" is at the Greeters Station. Look for a
line dedicated to theme camps. Tell your greeter that you are a
"REGISTERED THEME CAMP". Give them your camp name as it appears on
the web site and tell them your placement person's radio name.
6. You will be escorted to your spot by this person if it is between
the hours of 8:00 AM and Sunset. If it is later ask your greeter if
placement is still running. We may be able to get you settled, but
more likely than not you will need to camp in temporary camping over
night and wait to be placed in the morning. Have fun that night
visiting and walking around. We will get to you quickly in the
morning. If you are the first person in for your camp do not pass
through Greeters without identifying your camp.
7. DO NOT TRY TO PLACE YOURSELVES. The placement information given
to you is approximate because we need you to use this system. There
are too many problems with people setting up in someone else's spot.
The problem is compounded in the dark. It is not fair to anyone to
have to move big structures constructed overnight, so please work
with us.
8. There is also the messaging center at Playa Info. In case there
is a problem with your placement, decide with your camp-mates which
alternative method of locating your camp you will use at Playa Info.
This way, camp mates coming later in the week can go to Playa Info
and locate you. It takes the load off of them if you have this
arrangement worked out before you leave for Black Rock City.
9. Any camp arriving after the deadline for holding placement may
find their space occupied by another camp. We hold your placement if
you are later than your expected arrival date, but will begin to fill
holes in Center Camp on Monday, the Esplanade on Tuesday and open all
camping on Wednesday.
10. Use the What Where When as your information resource and playbill
of events. Tune into BMIR (94.5) for additional news and events.
________________________________________________________
Print this out and join us! If you cannot reach any of us it is
because we are already out there. We will work out any pressing
details on the playa.
The changes to the city design are beautiful. It is going to be a
terrific year (and it is not as dusty as the rumors say - YET).
See you out here.
